The MedTech Conference = AdvaMed + Industry + Hipster, Hacker, and Hustler Mindset

published on August 17, 2017 by Jim McGough

The next 25 years will present incredible opportunities for innovators in the MedTech industry.  In my opinion, individuals and teams who learn to operate with the “Hipster, Hacker, and Hustler” mindset will be in the best position to create game-changing innovation and become sought-after partners in future MedTech innovations.   Unfortunately, this mindset is a bit foreign to many folks who have already been in the MedTech industry for a while---and professional investors “know it when they see it”.

In other posts I will outline why now is the time to get yourself, your team, or your institution operating with the “Hipster, Hacker, and Hustler” mindset.  Today I want to bring to your attention one of the best opportunities to better understand this mindset as well as to build your human capital (market intelligence, process knowledge, and self-awareness) and social capital (professional network) in the MedTech innovation ecosystem.

Attend the MedTech Conference powered by Advamed on September 25-27 in San Jose, CA.

“Not your typical Annual Industry Conference”

Over the past five years AdvaMed, the US-based trade association that leads the effort to advance medical technology, has transformed the annual AdvaMed conference into the must-attend event of the industry for all members of the ecosystem—now The MedTech Conference.  While it has always been an excellent conference for established medical technology companies, it is now equally valuable for early-stage MedTech ventures and the ecosystem that supports them thanks to the efforts of AdvaMed Accel, the division of AdvaMed dedicated to supporting the needs of emerging MedTech firms.  The partnering system, access, programming, and events are the best I have seen in any global industry conference.  Lastly, the very best examples of “Hipster, Hacker, and Hustler” mindset will be on display at the MedTech Innovator Showcase during the MedTech Conference.  Nearly 500 early-stage MedTech ventures competed globally in regional competitions to be one of the fifty finalists to be invited to San Jose.

This year the tent has been widened to include more early-stage MedTech companies and more of the “new” players in the industry including Google/Verily and Facebook.  In addition, many of the leading Academic Health Innovators will be in attendance as well as representatives from the leading MedTech incubators and accelerators.  Of course, professional investors will be there as well.

As a member of the MedTech Conference Business Development committee I can attest to the fact that there will be many opportunities to make new connections and become more self-aware of the “Hipster, Hustler, and Hacker” mindset on display in San Jose.

If you are a member of a University Tech Transfer office who would like to join your peers at this event please message me directly for details on a special registration rate.

Looking forward to seeing you in San Jose in September.
